[ARC5] Dynamotor eBay conflict.

EBAY has evolved over the years. A long time ago not long after it first started I listed a HQ-215 receiver. First on Ebay and I had bought it at
a garage sell for about $100. It ran up to $1300. At that time things were very different.
1. Bidders ID's were shown to anyone
2. No PayPal to process payments and assure fund transfer to seller. Payment was arranged between buyer and seller, mailed check, money order or cash.
3. Feedback was one way, that is that a buyer or seller could place feedback but the other party
could not respond to the feedback.

On now saying that the buyer's check bounced. I contacted the second highest bidder and in the meantime a fellow
had contacted him and sold him one similar to mine so he was not interested.
The third highest bidder was at $800 and she was getting it for her husband as a gift. So it sold for $800.
After that for years $800 was about what all of these radios sold for. It kind of set a standard price for the radio.

If you don't set a minimum value to your item there is a risk that it will only be noticed by only one person that is looking
for it during that short time frame. I almost always sell at buy it now only because I am not interested in selling something
in a short time frame and prefer waiting for some one who really needs it and wants it to notice my listing.
Ebay has incentives to auction starting at a very low price, most sales are garage sale junk. I had been burned one time and that
was my first ebay sale. I got over it and every once in a while I will get fired up and sell more, but not often. Mostly to make up
for what I purchase. My recent sales has been modified VW engine parts. Heads and manifolds.
By the way, there are a number of folks looking for bargains out there just to resell on ebay again. These folks have
loads of listings all the time. They buy for $1 and sell for $50. Not every thing you sell is purchased by the person that
needs it.

I have only read a few of the comments on our list, but I feel compelled to comment.

A few years ago, before eBay sickened me to the point of quitting it, I offered a few items that the going price was in the $50-$100 range. I started the auctions at $1.00 with no reserve.
Several of the items had bids of $1.00. Disappointing as it was, the auctions ended at $1.00.
What did I do?
I sent the item. My word is of considerable value, at least to me.
Would you want to deal with someone whose word and self respect were self-valued at $50 or $100.?
At what dollar value do they consider it ok to screw another person?
Life is short and if we take anything with us where ever go when we die, it's likely to include our word and respect for others.

Does my rant make sense to anyone other then myself?
If anyone cares to comment I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Sorry for the diatribe.

73,
Rick
