[ARC5] Bendix Radios

The GO-9 has no phone capability, but the TBW does. The interconnection is
closer to the GO-9 however, and it seems to have only one relay like the
GO-9 while the TBW has two. Panel layouts aren't really close to either the
GO-9 or TBW (which are mirror images of each other). PS has more metering,
but no or limited capacitor compensation for the 800Hz supply than the
GO/TBW. Slightly different freq range than the GO/TBW, and neither the GO or
TBW has provisions for crystal control. Also about 3 inches shorter, and 30
lbs lighter than a GO9.

Also, both the TBW that I've used, and the GO that I own were both built by
Westinghouse.

Nonetheless, it's a good looking unit. Wonder what tube lineup the TA-3
uses.

Think about that for a bit. That is a 1941 catalog, so the radios would
have been available to all sorts of private and commercial users (the
war did not start, as far as the USA was concerned, until December 8,
1941). Most likely the catalog was aimed at fledgling airlines and
government users (the CAA).

The military may have purchased some of the items, and it looks as if
some were easily adaptable to military use simply by bolting a military
nameplate over the "civilian" nomenclature. Don't know any of this for
certain, but it seems a likely outcome.

For example, the TA-3 transmitter shown on page 7 of the brochure looks
like it could have easily become the GO-9, and the IF-12 portable
frequency indicator on page 18 could have easily become the BC-221.
