What transmitter did Chuck Yaeger use? Did they have special metal tubes?
Maybe they used the subminiature tubes designed for Proximity Fuze Bombs :-)

These types of ill-informed speculations are inappropriate for a professional information source like this list!
Reference to applicable **official** documentation, the aircraft "dash one", shows it to be the model of BC-348 used in the HF liaison set onboard the Bell X-1. It is the only BC-348 that ever broke the sound barrier, and hence used all metal tubes to keep the glass from breaking.
