[ARC5] The ARC 5 repackaged - heresy or hot rod tinkering?

Hi all - ok thanks for the input on this mostly philosophical question.
I plan to put my energy into getting my 'mostly stock' receivers operational. This was mostly
a wild hair and a repackaged command set radio would not bump the 75S-3B or the Racal 6790GM

fromthe operating desk. Most of my building has been with those three legged fuses so this would
have been a chance to do some building with toobs - but again, Im going to focus my energy
on getting the R and BC sets operational (Q5, 160M, 80M, 40M) and then tackle that BC312.....

This is no hot rod. The circuit changes are relatively minor and common. The object of the project was to fit a radio behind a 2Unit rack panel. Using a readily available, inexpensive and well known RX means no RF/IF design work, no (or very little) wiring layout design work, cheap parts compared to buying new, you only need a sharp hack saw blade. A radically modified custom show car for sure, no faster or quicker than stock.

Hi all
Has anyone done the 'arc 5 repackaged' design from the Command Sets book?
I have looked at the article and thought about it for a bit but decide not to as
Im focusing more on getting the lightly modded sets I have up and running
and leave as stock as possible. I realize that article came from a time
when the receiver was more widely available and an item for experimentation.
I guess I would try this as an experiment for a basket case set that was already
beyond restoration but is this gilding the lily?

Thx 73
