A kinda nice local tuning knob can be made from one of the cranks off a 3-receiver control unit and an internally-splined end from a tuning cable. (The latter are pretty rare in good condition. I have cut them off damaged cables) You can use the knurled cable nut to hold the thing in place. - Gordon White
