Emotionally, like some other folks, I dislike Facebook. But, practically
speaking, every time I look at a Facebook page I see a horrible mishmash of
photos and comments. Which is OK for real time ephemeral chat/banter I
suppose. However it appears to me to lose the value of an archive of shared
knowledge.

Is it possible to *Find* things in that Facebook mess? Having mail lists
threaded in my email reader is really valuable to me. Having the mailman
lists archived (in an organized searchable manner) is really valuable to
me. Having the ability to save posts or threads to folders I have organized
on my PC for later reference is really valuable to me. I honestly don't
know whether those valuable features are easy, hard, or impossible with
Facebook.

I am on several email lists hosted on Yahoo. While they sometimes cause
heartburn to list admins, you can archive photos and documents there. You
can read the list on the group home page and/or get emails direct. For that
matter, you can read mailman list postings on the list archive web page
too. Posts get archived instantly.

Aren't there plenty of cloud services where you can upload files and photos
to share? Dropbox, Google, etc. ??

What does anyone think about rec.radio.amateur.boatanchors as a forum
format? I helped found it many years ago but rarely visit these days. I
dunno, just seems awkward compared to a mail list.
