[ARC5] Dielectric tape

You are right Tim. So far I have needed sticky tape and have not needed conformity. I can see where a couple turns of teflon tape on a loose or undersized cylindrical slug would work wonders.
The original Gore material in the early 70s was something like aerated teflon which in practice means essentially fuzzy teflon. I have come across this in microwave cables.

Hi Bruce - Yep - "Kapton" is hard to beat, it's great stuff for this application. Altho teflon pipe tape is non adhesive, it conforms well to winding turns in small ferrite assemblies and is "good enough" for most of my applications. I just mentioned it because it is also cheap and readily available. I believe Gore Tex HV wire is insulated with this stuff. We used lots of it at work for up to 5KV and is works quite well (and it is thin for hookup wire).

TimThat is also a good trick but i have only used teflon tape once in this fashion.
I had fairly consistent access to polyimide tape during my career and a couple years ago i had reason to buy a good assortment of rolls of polyimide tape of various widths for a project at work. That tape resides in a box four steps from my desk so it comes to mind quickly.
Of course one of the attractions of polyimide tape beyond its excellent electrical parameters is that it seems to stick to almost everything and remain stuck at temperature extremes.

Good info above...I use teflon pipe-thread tape for HV ferrite power supply transformers, good dielectric strength, cheap, available, works well.

For what it is worth, Kapton is the Dupont trade name for polyimide. I agree it is great stuff although a bit pricy

I work for a High Power Power Supply manufacture( 750 to 100,00 Watts systems). We use 3M 1205 kapton, 2 mil thickness,1000 volts isolation per mil. works well under heat and cold. Works great on Baluns.
