Gents,

FWIW, I did an article for ER magazine whereby the IF coils were 
slightly repositioned (that is, the lower coil was lowered).  The 
results were actually quite good, about halving the effective 
bandwidth.  Those who have tried it find the receiver to be genuinely 
better in actual use.  Not the same as adding a lattice filter, but 
nonetheless helpful.
