I was also somewhat puzzled at the surprise expressed at its price,
Robert. Moreover, though the repainting is admittedly not well done and
the end bells should have received some reshaping work before painting,
at least there was an attempt at matching the original gloss black and
not repainting with (the wrong) wrinkle finish. The BC-224-B is only
the second in a long series of that fascinating receiver, and actually
can be considered the first in the "redesigned" set series. It
certainly represents all the later sets more than the original 1936
BC-224-A. Perhaps it may not be common knowledge that 1930s military
sets have their own following. I realize that there are probably not
too many owners of an original BC-224-B, but if you are, then the
correct dynamotor certainly rates interest that would probably not be
perceived by anyone who did not own one. There was certainly an
armature truing performed at one point, but it seems to have been
accomplished competently and the subsequent minor brush wear shown in
the photos wouldn't worry me personally. With four bidders, it frankly
went for less than I expected.
