Ken,
You should certainly consider that project. A yr or so ago I
was prodded to go into my attic and dig out a T-19/ARC-5 that had
been up there for 40-plus years. I found it, and boy what a sad
looking 'lil rig. The paint was flaked off and was really nasty.
I washed it in a 5-gal bucket of soapy water, polished all the
silver, lubed it and replaced the multi-cap on the back. I then
made the few, non-murderfied changes and it was ready to go. A
p/s was made w/o any reg...fired it up and now it will do abt
75 watts input. Sounds great with just a tad of chirp. Still looks
a bit rough, but what the hay.
The moral of this story is that if the parts are there, with a
little work, a sad, bedraggled ARC-5 can be brought back to life, just
about regardless of its condition, without butchering it as past murderfications suggested.
I used info from AB5S/W7EKB & ER...great conversion details.
Good luck and hope you are successful.

PS: My T-19 is very stable...no drift. Not bad for a late
1930s design.

Exactly !
Gee....some people... :-(

P.S. I think one of my next projects will be to get one or more of my derelict
"ARC-5" transmitters refurbished and on the air. I think I have enough parts
from three of them to make one working one. At least, I hope I do.
