This method for closely replicating the fine wrinkle finish of WW2 era gear WORKS, and is super easy.

Use Rust-Oleum Truck Bed Coating. The black color is p/n 248914.

It's foolproof (if anything actually is foolproof, which I doubt.... but it works for me) -- no heat guns. No long drying times. Just like M&Ms, "no muss, no fuss, no chocolate mess."

I have used this on a BC-348 receiver cabinet that was very noticeably scratched up, and it not only covered the "sins" and dried fast, but also very closely matched the finish on the front panel, which I did not need to paint. Even if I had painted the panel, the lettering would have been real easy to remove paint from, because this paint is thin -- unlike Plastikote and other wrinkle finishes.

You might want to go over it with a light spray of Testors Dullcoat (found in hobby shops and craft stores) after it dries hard, to get an even better match. It can be a "tiny bit shiny."

This paint is available in hardware stores and automotive stores.
