Hi Neil,

That jumped out and slapped me upside the head immediately! The attack 
at Pearl Harbor came in 1941. Moreover, The Doolittle raid on Tokyo AND 
the devastating defeat of the Japanese fleet at Midway also came before 
August of 1942 - in June 1942. I smell a skunk in the woodpile, too. 
Maybe they used that purloined transmitter to announce V-J day <evil grin>.
