Here is the sellers response to my question:

*"The cabinet does appear to have been retouched. You have a sharp eye ! *

*The legend is there, it was covered up by dirt, I cleaned it some and took
a photo.I didn't want to do too much and wear whats left of the white
filler in the engraving. *
*I may do more harm than good depending on the buyer. I will upload the
photo."*

I responded by advising him that the retouching should be made clear to
potential buyers.
A large gap between expectations and reality is best avoided.
