[ARC5] CW and Mic plugs

The best mil headset ever is the HS-33 with a pair of chamois cushions! Comfortable all day long, and sounds great especially on CW. Only problem is that the CD-307 extension cords -- with the jack on one end for the PL-54 aka PJ-054 "bail out plug" and a PL-55/PJ-055 plug on the other -- are getting a little bit hard to find. And you really, really need this cord because the wires in the headset headband are "tinsel cord" that can NOT be soldered to.
I'll never pass by a reasonably priced HS-33, or a cord, on a hamfest table.

Okay Jeep, I'm not Robert but the only set
I can think of that comes close
to a black
project that uses the HS-16 headphones is the
RS-1/GRC-109.
Maybe the RS-6 too? Then
again, there are folks on ebay and elsewhere who
believe R-390As with Rustoleum black panels
must've been used by 'black
agencies', so....
Some years back I bought up several boxes of
surplus from a base closing
and got a bunch
of those goofy green rubber headphones and a pile of the
HS-16s with Viet Nam era dates on the foil.
Green Berets were using the 109
there along
with other groups, of course. Greg/WA7LYO SK who was a
member
of these lists was a radioman who
trained the Montagnards to use the
GRC-109
and other sets.
I've
only got a handful left but I can tell you - they are
incredibly
uncomfortable with just the
bakelite caps! Even after trying to bend the
headband outward, my ears always hurt after
wearing a set for more than a
few minutes.
But they do work well otherwise.
