Okay Jeep, I'm not Robert but the only set I can think of that comes close
to a black project that uses the HS-16 headphones is the RS-1/GRC-109.
Maybe the RS-6 too? Then again, there are folks on ebay and elsewhere who
believe R-390As with Rustoleum black panels must've been used by 'black
agencies', so....

Some years back I bought up several boxes of surplus from a base closing
and got a bunch of those goofy green rubber headphones and a pile of the
HS-16s with Viet Nam era dates on the foil. Green Berets were using the 109
there along with other groups, of course. Greg/WA7LYO SK who was a member
of these lists was a radioman who trained the Montagnards to use the
GRC-109 and other sets.

I've only got a handful left but I can tell you - they are incredibly
uncomfortable with just the bakelite caps! Even after trying to bend the
headband outward, my ears always hurt after wearing a set for more than a
few minutes. But they do work well otherwise.
