To double in the final, all that would be required is to short out so many turns on the final tank coil. That modification would be easily removed and the unit returned to its original condition.
Or, one could remove the existing tank coil, put it in a "safe place", and use a coil specifically designed for the 30-meter band.
Being that I am a firm believer in the principles of the conservation of my finances and labor (you might say "cheap and lazy"), I would go with the first example.

Yep, yep. We didn't need that nasty old magic eye or crystal. It was far
better to use that space for other cool stuff. (Can you hear them cringing
yet? :-D)
