They were called "Pyrene". The CCl4 vapur does not burn and is 4 to 5
times as heavy as air, and smothers the fire.
They were actually quite dangerous. If sprayed on very hot metal (possibly
only iron or steel) they made Phosgene, a nasty war gas.
