At the risk of overwriting someone else, the 83-1SP is Amphenol's part 
number.  The PL-259 and mating SO-239 are both MIL part numbers and 
everyone, including Amphenol, would use that number identifying it as 
the MIL nomenclature.  That said, there are PL-259's out there that 
would totally fail any of the old MIL specs.  I do not ever recall 
seeing "83-1SP" on other than bona fide Amphenol products. Finally, I 
believe that the PL-259 connector is no longer in any published MIL.  
Rather, its just another COTS part.
