Mark,
I'll second what Dave said. The element might well be usable but time
will tell after all else is done. The capacitor is supposed to bypass
higher frequency noise as from dynamotors and inverters such in an
aircraft and ground installations. I believe its a .005ufd, but that
seems small, given the low Z of the mic. I'll have to check...? I
often use 3-conductor power cords, those with no drain wire and that are
flexible. Many older HP cords are rubber and not the stiffer plastic
and look original. If the mic element is shot, one from either an
H-33/PT handset or an old telephone/PBX headset will do very well.
Those PBX elements are small but also difficult to find. I agree with
the transformer comment... What transformer??? Should not be one
there..... The lugs and clamp from the PL-68 can be removed, cleaned
up, and re-used. Using a T-1 element, and such, from telephones makes
the mic, as I've said before, looks like a pig wearing a gas mask. Be
sure and burnish the contacts on the SW-106, too.
