[ARC5] Restuffing electrolytic caps - it won't work??

Would it not be a slightly better idea to just tack the cap tub back together at 3 or 4 points versus soldering all around? If someone had to get back into it, it'd be easier to reopen. And since the soldered up tub isn't 100 percent original looking, a few tack solders don't seem much less original looking.

BTW, I bought some mica sheets at a rock & gem show in case I had to remake a cap's insulating top. I probably won't need to do that, but if I ever do, I've got the material and it was inexpensive. Might be a thought for anyone who does a poor mica cutting job one day and wishes to try repairing it.

Probably. I sure as heck wouldn't do that.

BTW, I like your and Mike's method of removing the tops then soldering them
back on.

In my attempts at doing this (restuffing), I cut around the mica, then glued it
back in. It looks very good, but your method looks a lot easier.

As you know, I published a link to a short description, with photos, of my
re-stuffing job on my website here some time ago.

Thanks, David.
