I did this years ago on three ARC-5 receivers. As I recall, I dug the old
capacitors out with a screwdriver and needle-nose pliers. Never used a
drill. I cleaned the can and used a small drill bit to go through the
original hole that was in the bottom of the can where the negative lead was
soldered. I did electrolytics and the cans with the paper caps. New
electrolytic and Mylar caps are smaller than the old ones so they all fit
and, as I recall, I used caps with higher voltage ratings.
I missed how Dave opened his cans but he sure did a nice job. I used an
Xacto knife and cute the perimeter of the mica insulator and then glued it
back with epoxy. With care, this can be almost invisible.
As far as your head turning green, Dave, look very closely in the mirror
next time you shave!

The caps are press-fit into the tubs and can't be removed.
I've drilled-out some of the old material and made room
for new caps. With the 5 uFd, I notched the
side of the top to allow the negative lead to be soldered
to the can.
I have no idea what I'm breathing-in during this process,
but I don't like it. Anyone know if my head is going
to turn green and fall off??
