Question:  How do you tell where the British automobile owner lives?

Answer:  By the oil spots in the driveway!

In high school, I bought my eldest daughter a 1973 MGB.  She was "broadsided" by a Ford F-150 doing at least 70 mph (in a 40 mph zone).  I was able to drive the MGB home whereas the F-150 had to be towed!  The insurance companies decided to "total" the MGB and I bought my daughter a 1972 Triumph TR-6 with the insurance money.

My insurance agent, at the time, gave my daughter a place-mat with all sorts of "sayings" about British cars.  One of those were the instructions:

Place mat under vehicle at night.  Remove mat in the morning.  If mat is covered with oil, drive the vehicle.  If mat is NOT covered with oil, the sump is empty and DO NOT DRIVE!

I probably should not have acquired the MGB because it got my eldest started on sports cars.  In the past 30-years she has owned quite a number of those vehicles.  At one time, she had no less than 5 Mazda Miata cars and still owns 2 Miata vehicles!

Or, be in a British pub and say, "Gee, its cold in here! How do you keep the
beer warm?"
