The B-10 is, as you all point out, a VOR LOC (vice VOR/ILS) converter.
It performs two basic functions. For the LOC portion of the ILS, it
display the detected 90 and 150 Hz "tones" from the localizer and
displays them as a horizontal moving bar (needle) indicating left-right
of the ILS course. The VOR function uses a 9960 FM reference signal and
two other impressed AMmodulations. A manually "tuned" resolver in the
indicator moves the reference until a balance is found and indicated by
a centered vertical needle on the indicator. Signal quality "flags" are
also provided for go/no-go on the indicator. Also, as a function of the
0 or 180 degree phase ref, a TO or FROM flags pop up to annunciate if
the selected course is to or from the station. That's what the B-10,
and others do. The Glide Slope portion of the ILS is via another
converter that does only the 90 and 150 Hz information from a 20 channel
(now 40 channels) UHF receiver. Oh yeah... the typical indicator for
the Type 12 or 15, or ARN-30 is the IN-10. No "servos", per se.
Indicators such as the Collins ID-249 (AN/ARN-14 et al) do have course
servo motors in them. I hope I got all this right..........
