The B-10 is, as you all point out, a VOR LOC (vice VOR/ILS) converter.  
It performs two basic functions.  For the LOC portion of the ILS, it 
display the detected 90 and 150 Hz "tones" from the localizer and 
displays them as a horizontal moving bar (needle) indicating left-right 
of the ILS course.  The VOR function uses a 9960 FM reference signal and 
two other impressed AMmodulations.  A manually "tuned" resolver in the 
indicator moves the reference until a balance is found and indicated by 
a centered vertical needle on the indicator.  Signal quality "flags" are 
also provided for go/no-go on the indicator.  Also, as a function of the 
0 or 180 degree phase ref, a TO or FROM flags pop up to annunciate if 
the selected course is to or from the station.  That's what the B-10, 
and others do.  The Glide Slope portion of the ILS is via another 
converter that does only the 90 and 150 Hz information from a 20 channel 
(now 40 channels) UHF receiver.  Oh yeah... the typical indicator for 
the Type 12 or 15, or ARN-30 is the IN-10.  No "servos", per se.  
Indicators such as the Collins ID-249 (AN/ARN-14 et al) do have course 
servo motors in them.  I hope I got all this right..........
