When you do, please let us know what works for you.  I've toyed with 
doing the same many times.

I even tried designing and building an inverter supply based on a 
National Semiconductor "web bench" design for a BC-221.  It didn't work 
right - I could get the required voltage, but could not approach the 
current needed without the MOSFET overheating.  I did try another 
version with a TO-220 MOSFET versus the surface-mount MOSFET the design 
called for and it worked a bit better but did not work as well as I had 
hoped.

I ended up building a standard transformer-based supply for the 221.
