The circumstances of Amelia Earhart's disappearance and any theories about
it are Off Topic, so I won't post anything here. The only justification for
raising her disappearance was the fact that according to sources that were
better than mere rumour, she was carrying radios of Western
Electric manufacture.

I'm not aware, but am open to enlightenment, that W.E. produced civilian
avionics equipment, hence the suggestion that she was permitted to use
military equipment. There is also the possibility that for such long and
dangerous flights, she was *ordered* to use military equipment. Being
ordered to use unfamiliar equipment with its steep learning curve might
actually explain her alleged nonchalance about properly familiarizing
herself with the radios she carried.
