You reminded me that in the early 70s, I built up a triode product detector for the Scott SLRM using a small square ex-milrad module chassis that had three 7 or 9 pin  tube sockets, and a "back porch" with more sockets, never did know its original function, looked like a Collins product.  I think the circuit came out of an ARRL handbook.  I fed the audio into the "Phone" input on the back of the Scott.  It worked very well, it's still in there bolted to the side of the big mixer and master oscillator variable cap  shield can.
