But, that's exactly what happens when the receiver (BC-348) is switched to
the MVC mode.  The audio half of the dual Volume control is bypassed, the
audio output stage runs wide open and only the RF gain potentiometer remains
in play.  Opposite situation in AVC, RF gain locked at max and the audio pot
comes controls the output level.  Same in other receivers of the era like
the BC-312 and BC-342.
