It seems to depend entirely on your environment and the amount of pain 
you wish to endure. :-) When I lived up in the Washington DC area, the 
silver oxidation was considerably worse than down where I now live in 
farm country (no comments about Congress, though I understand it would 
take a superhuman effort...)  If you don't live in a populated area of 
the country and keep the equipment in an air conditioned space, then 
your MTBF will be longer.  For me, it's all about the pursuit of 
perfection.  As John famously says, YMMV.  And I'll add my usual mantra 
that everyone on this list is free to do whatever they wish. I just 
provided another data point to consider.
