Yes. I was concerned about that too. However, I have not tried to find out 
either...yet.

What I did was to cork the breech, and carefully pour the Evapo-Rust into 
the bore until it was full, then set the rifle on its butt for 24 hours. Then 
poured the stuff out (it was black by then), washed it out with water, then 
Hoppe's, then did it all over again.

I figured that there was so little Evapo-Rust in the bore that it would take 
several applications to get the job done.

I did this several times until the bore looked like I thought it should.

I was careful not to get the stuff on the outside, although as I said, in this 
case, it would not have made any difference.

The rifle shoots just fine and is reasonably accurate, at least for these old 
eyes. I am sure someone younger would be able to get a better group.

As it is, the old M-91 Mosin-Nagant shoots very high. They always did. About 
12" high at 100 yds, even with the sight set to its lowest possible position.

I suspect that their "lowest setting" makes the best groups at 250 yds.
