Yes, the input filtering and EMI leakage issues do remain, but that is
mostly just a matter of shielding and we know how to deal with that. No
amount of shielding will fix direct injection of noise into the cathodes
nor is filtering able to completely solve the problem. And we're still
left with the poor dynamic reg. The post reg addresses those problems.
Many lab bench supplies use the two reg scheme in order to deal with the
serious heat and size issues of multi-hundred watt supplies yet still be
able to offer noise free tight regulation. These lab supplies work
extremely well. Except for the light weight and absence of a fan, you
would never know they contain a switcher.
