I would also think that a BC-611/721 a few hundred feet behind a
C-47/SCR274 would not work very well with the 611 receiver being grossly
overloaded by that nearby transmitter. Or by all other A/C in the
formation. On the ground, you "attenuate" the local signal by putting your
finger on the antenna - in a glider, well. I don't know.
Maybe the C-47 just blinked its brake lights to indicate the release
point....
