LeMay was instrumental in the Military switch from AM to SSB.  He had 
Art Collins install a KWS-1 and 75A4 in an aircraft and
fly everywhere making AM/SSB comparisons.  The dates and type of 
aircraft are too hazy to remember, but I think LeMay may have been
AF Chief at the JCS at the time.
