I "collected" an October, 1944 copy of QST*.  It has two articles that  
show or tell of the SX-28 in use, in one case by the (early version  
of ) the FCC to monitor the HF bands, presumably within the US, and  
secondly by the AAF comm stations installed across Canada, and the  
Aleutian islands to help our aircraft navigate over to the the  
Pacific.  The SX-28 is shown in photos being used in some numbers  for  
DF-ing flights (with Adcock antennas) and presumably communications  
work, too.

* It's my birth month, and I have a Life and National Geographic,  
also.  It was a different world at that time, in many ways.
