What about the John Wayne Toilet Paper?
Rough, tough, and won't take no S*** offa nobody!
As a state agency we still get MREs from the first Gulf War (1988-1990 dates mostly) for use when our systems-site repair guys are at remote mountaintop or coastal sites.... some of them are still edible, sort of. No one has died (yet).
The best stuff we ever got, though, were the kind of meals the Red Cross and/or FEMA handed out... we had several pallets of these that were out of date by a year or so when they arrived ("Give it to the radio guys, they'll eat anything...." yeah right). The vegetarian lasagna meal was pretty darn good, and I sequestered a couple of cases of those for times when the weather was so bad at my permanent work site that I just didn't feel like going to lunch. Aside from kinda-stale bread sticks and some desserts that had turned to mush, they were fine. They have similar chemical heaters to what comes in military MREs, but these use salt water and seem to work a lot better. They even include a little plastic bag of salt water to activate the heaters.
