[ARC5] AN/ARC-3

Here in Chicagoland we have a couple of 2 meter AM nets. One meets right
after the AM net on 50.4 on Weds night.

I use the ARC-3 on the 2 meter net now and again. It produces good
sounding AM even when using a
carbon mic. The receiver is sensitive and can hear everything the other
stations are hearing.

The only draw back is the side tone is LOUD. When I got the TX someone
had cut the cathode pin off
the 6V6 side tome amplifier. I replaced it with a working 6V6. I used
the set and even with the side tone
gain turned all the way down, wow. Maybe O.K. for a plane cockpit, but
at home, ouch. I put the tube
with the cut off pin back in and everything is fine.

I have been able to pick up a couple of junker units at hamfests that
were hacked up, so they were
used by hams.

73 and have a good weekend.
