[ARC5] B-36J Radio Operator Position

I used to live at the end of the main runway at Edwards AFB. B-36's
doing max load takeoffs would fly close to our apartment in the Wherry
housing units. The noise was unbelievable. Furniture would walk across
the room and items would vibrate off the shelves. I heard that they
were carrying as much as 84,000 pounds of concrete practice bombs. They
also did night time drops of extremely bright flares that lighted up the
whole dessert. Those must have been the recon versions. I remember
when they lost one right on the runway when landing. The three engines
on one side went into reverse thrust but the three on the other side did
not. Nobody got out. Another one hit Haystack mountain, once again
nobody survived. My step father was in the air police there and went to
the scenes of both crashes.
