[ARC5] Looking for inexpensive wire sources for making up cables

Folks,
I'd like to make up a few cables (for different airborne radio setups) to
look like the white wire bundles as seen in WW2 era photos. Presently I'm
using some surplus multicondictor, rubber or PVC sheathed cables which
contain heavier than the originally specified wires, so the whole cable is
very stiff and hard to assemble into the connectors.
I need #12, #14, #16 and #22 wires. I just don't want to spend the money for
brand new wire spools as sold by the various major electronics distributors.
Does anyone know of surplus wire vendors where I can get wire and it won't
cost me an arm and a leg?
Thanks for any info,
