If you do see an open-primary audio output transformer,
be sure to check any cathode bypass or input coupling 
capacitor to the stage.  B+ leaking to the grid or other
loss of bias in audio PAs has killed many transformers,
especially in battery sets.  Battery output transformers 
can be destroyed almost instantly, as many SCR-288
owners could attest.
