True, and unfortunate; they are cool little rigs.
The problem is common in any rig that lacks "someone to talk to."
2-meter AM is rare even in big urban areas like Dallas/Ft. Worth.
But then, you can FM the transmitters by just moving two wires
and adding a "rubbering" trimmer cap to the crystal socket.
I have a set on 146.52 and it talks to handie-talkies just fine.
Adding an external PA cribbed from one of the millions of
now-discarded 5 kHz dev FM mobiles should be easy and
is on my long list of projects.
