For what it may be worth, I too had an SCR-183 transmitter (BC-230) which had been converted to crystal control, this time on 4495. I don't recall the crystal as being inside the tuning unit though. And, the crystal actually looked like a mica capacitor, the brown case type with the big round solder-ears.
I once removed a complete ARC-5 setup from a Twin Beech (SNB-5, TC-45J) which was being relegated to an airframe maintenance trainer. The transmitter complement was a pair of T-19s, one on 3023.5 and I think the other was on 3230-something. Does that frequency ring a bell with anyone?
