Very fortuitous that you found the capacitor balls and not once but
three times.
Well, it's certainly been an interesting read Ken, and it's not over yet!
I'm looking forward to more details in your quest to get the thing
running right. Not that I'd ever think of modifying a receiver the way
that hacker did; a xtal controlled converter would be a better option.
I'm sure some of those radical mods were dreamed up by the big
ham gear producing companies to reduce surplus gear to junk and
compel guys to buy their product instead.
