     I have five RAV receivers, 190-550, 520-1500, 1.5-3 and 13.5-20
and20-27. The serial numbers, both stamped on the backs and written on
the ID plates, are "B-1" and "B-2" These all came out of the morgue in
Boonton and are stamped "M" in a circle.

If memory serves I found a few other production RAV receivers that I
gave to the NASM.

The RAV receiver decks under the covers are unpainted.

Also I //have a preliminary set of instructions for the "XRAT"
receivers that of course became the RAT series. These are dated
December, 1939. My RAT receivers themselves have contract datesof June,
1939, NOs-67258. I have never seen an XRAT-marked receiver.

These instructions confirm what I wrote earlier that each set of
two receivers included a switch panel (with SENS and CW/OFF/MCW
controls) AND a switch panel adapter for each receiver. Each receiver
also came with a crank-type and a knob-type localtuner.

It is clearthat the XRAT receivers were the immediate follow-on to
the Type K prototypes, furnished the Navy under contract NOs-64476..
The gain control of the XRAT is described as differing fron the type
K/"so that the AUTO-MANUAL swit//ches used in Type K are not required.
This new type of gain control is essentially a manual gain control for
signals of such magnitude as not to produce serious overload, and is a
kind of automatic gain control, arranged to prevent blocking of the
receiver, for stronger signals."/
