[ARC5] RAT, RAV

I believe the only 9 - 13.5 mc Command receivers built were in the
RAV series. The only one I found, after ten years of going through
surplus, hamfests, the A.R.C. "morgue," dealers, including the
then-existing Aircraft Radio Sales Co. in Connecticut in the
1960s-1970s, was so badly hacked (stripped) that the only thing telling
me it was a 9-13.5 mc receiver was the yellow lettering on the back. No
covers, no IFs, no tubes, no variable capacitor, no dial. In those days
I'd have put back together such a receiver if it were possible. I had IF
cans, tubes, etc. but not the tuning capacitor or dial. I think it went
to the National Air & Space Museum in 1982.

     I have two RAT receivers:

13.5-20 mc, s/n 13, with RAT-labeled Switch Panel # 62

20-27 mc, s/n 62, with RAT-labeled Switch Panel Adapter # 99

These are in a 2-receiver AN/ARC-5 rack with shock mount. No dynamotors

The S/P numbers suggest there were both an adapter and a panel made
for each receiver.

The chassis of the RAT receivers is painted black wrinkle under the
tube cover where on all other receivers I have seen after the Type K,
that area is unpainted aluminum. (I have a couple of RAV receivers)

I have the TMs for the RAT, RAT-1, RAV, SCR-274-N, AN/ARC-5, etc. etc.,
and three pages that appears to be preliminary /"instructions for
//installing and op//erating Model//RAV aircraft radio receiving
equipment" /dated September 4, 1940. (The RAV contract was dated 13
March, 1940)
