Hi, Les:
No, Frank Jones was a fellow who wrote handbooks and beginners' articles
in the late 1930s which were quite popular. He also "pioneered" very simple
but effective receiver circuits.
His favorite circuit for beginners' transmitters was a push-pull dual-triode
crystal-oscillator. He used a 53 or a 6A6 dual-triode tube.
Here is a link to a short missive on it, with a link to the schematic:

The circuit is unusually "easy" on crystals.
I have not followed this web-site submission up yet. I can send you the
schematic of the 829B rig I built for a professor if you would like to see it.
Using a power supply with about 250 VDC output, I got 12 watts out of the
rig, at 20 MHz.
If you "step back" to this URL:

you will find other interesting transmitter circuits...at least they are of interest
to me, anyway. That single-tube 813 crystal oscillator transmitter especially
interests me. It provides 150 watts output.
