IF this is a postage stamp package and IF there are two rows of three
colored dots and IF one row of dots has arrow heads nestled up against three dots
in one row, the package should be held with the row with arrow heads at the
top and pointing to the right. IF the left dot in the upper row is black,
the code is for AWS mica (silver and with center dot in lower row silver
would be paper). IF the upper left dot is not black .OR. silver .AND. IF the
lower center dot is not silver, the code is RMA or something else.
Reading left to right upper and then left to right bottom (which transposes
John's last three colors) we have:
Black = AWS Mica
Green = first significant figure = 5
Brown = second significant figure = 1
Red = Characteristic = C (whatever that means, could be as given below)
Yellow = Tolerance = 4%
Black = Multiplier = 10^0 = x1
So 51 mmf, 4%, Characteristic C, 500 Volt**
** All AWS Mica capacitors with three arrow heads below 6800 mmf are rated
500 VDC. 6800 through 10,000 are rated 300 VDC.
Reference AN 16-40BC224-2 pp 7-4 & 7-5
Note that leading zeros are not significant (except to computer sorting or
indexing code) and therefore the first significant figure's color cannot be
black.
Another AWS chart in AN 16-35TS375-3 has a broad arrow surrounding the top
row of three dots and doesn't say anything about a code ID dot or dots. It
would yield 051 mmf and characteristic C (identified here as +/- 200
ppm/deg. C) but yellow equates to <blank> on the accompanying chart.
If the upper row of dots has neither three arrow heads nor a broad arrow
