[ARC5] don't drool over the carpet.

Wow... did you get the F4F Wildcat with it?

That's a beautiful set.  Pricey...!  But I'd hate to think what it cost me, to obtain an almost complete set of coils, control box, test meter and a couple of connectors for my RU-18 receiver.  At eVilBay prices, it wer'nt cheap.  I still don't have a dyno or junction box, but do have everything needed to make a lash-up to operate the receiver.

You really ought to consider in your will, leaving this to the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, FL.  Otherwise, when you go, it's liable to end up in the Dempsty-Dumpsty because the "instant-ham-just-add-water" types who handle your estate will consider it to be worthless junk -- if they even recognize this for what it is, which is doubtful.  Seen things like that happen!

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, I came across a set just like this, all brand new.  It had been presented to my high school's radio club (yes, there used to be such things) by our beneficent Goobermint, quite a few years before I got there.  The physics teacher (a real ijit if ever I saw one) wanted to clean out the "junk" in the old club room and was going to throw this out.  I'd known it was there; I'd graduated a couple of years before.  Through an intermediary, I managed to acquire it by being there to catch it when the stuff was tossed out -- rx, tx, all accessories, all coils, all connectors, just like this one, some still in the original packing.  I got the receiver working, and it was surprisingly good if the band wasn't too crowded.  Well, a Novice friend came over a few days later.  He'd been struggling to use a home brew regen receiver with a 6SN7 and a 6V6 and had made maybe five contacts in the 3-or-so months he'd been
licensed.  He drooled over that RU receiver like it was an R-390, and I guess it was, compared to his homebrew rig.  I gave the whole setup to him.  I don't know what, if anything, he ever did with the transmitter; but he used that receiver for quite a while and it served him well.

My current RU-18 was found in an attic that a friend and I were cleaning out about 6 years ago (actually there were four or five of them!).  Brings back a lot of great memories.

For the price it sold for, I'd say it is going to someone who is going to
pay attention to it or, at least, preserve it for a few more years.

I've no intention of selling my set, but it sure made me smile.
