Yes, there's definitely money to be made there, but you have to be a big
player. I discussed that very idea with some money people a while back.
Consolidating a large number of packages, shipping on an "availability" basis in
full ISO containers to central locations in foreign countries, and then getting
the packages into the local postal delivery systems can be done profitably but
you need to get registered and certified as a common carrier, abide by a
boatload of rules and provide for all the governments to inspect anything they
want any time they want (with you taking liability for damage). Also, a big
shipping player can come along and crush you by undercutting you (essentially,
dumping of services).
Much easier for an established company to do it in association with ebay. Make
it just a little cheaper than the others, with really slow service, and there's
millions to be made. Initially the pricing may have some very attractive
numbers, grab them while you can.
