Shipping has little to do with 9/11 IMO.
The real impact has been the discontinuance of surface (ship) mail transport.
I recently bought a WWII tool kit from Australia. It cost about $30
postage for something about the size and weight of a can of soup. I would
have preferred to wait 3 months and save half the postage.
The eBay thing may be using a freight consolidating service, which offers
much better deals.
