A-N Range modern version -
My buddy Glen and I designed and built one around 1975 - well sort of.
We had to build an instrumented truck for testing road surfaces - part
of the test was for the driver to go exactly XX.X mph while applying
the brakes on an instrumented trailer to measure skid resistance (the
system also dumped water under the trailer tires). How did we get the
driver to keep a steady XX.X mph? Glen, being an old AF type said
"A-N!" - it worked great: A for too slow, N for too fast and the
driver could easily keep dead on the target speed while paying
attention to the road and traffic.
