I can understand the need for non-concert-hall quality mics in tactical situations.
 
I finagled a ferry ride in the Collings B-24 Liberator (Witchcraft) this spring and you had to yell in each others face to be heard. 
The mic in my little video camera was maxed out. All I heard later was wind roaring. It's no wonder they are deaf as a post - they have to be.

Hearing those Continentals singing 4-part harmony was wonderful!

Gotta work on the Collings group and get them to do some Aero-Mobile next season. Witchcraft has a working radio ops position, IIRC.
I know at least one qualified op, hihi!
